"Hydraulic Cylinder Repair"

In this Design Guide, the editors of Fluid Power World provide tips on selecting cylinder repair services and what to expect when sourcing repaired and rebuilt hydraulic cylinders.

When well cared for, hydraulic cylinders should last decades, but sometimes these rugged components can take a beating and it is often more cost-effective, timely and environmentally sound to rebuild a damaged cylinder than to buy one new.

Every individual piece of a hydraulic cylinder is replaceable, especially when you work with an experienced and qualified hydraulic shop. Common cylinder types, such as NFPA and mill-type especially were designed with repair in mind. They are both equally repairable — with NFPA cylinders it’s simple to remove nuts and tie rods to make repairs while mill-type cylinders can even be repaired while still fully or partially installed on the machine.
